Like the snipe, I am an increasingly rare species called a native Oregonian. I grew up fishing around the Pacific Northwest and shooting upland birds on a working farm in the northwestern Willamette Valley, and still live and work in this area. However, I didn’t take up snipe shooting until much later in life, and it has now become my biggest sporting preoccupation. My objectives in assembling this site are as stated in the Introduction, that I want to share references to snipe in literary fiction and poetry when I come across it. This diminutive body of work, along with the great sporting non-fiction written on the snipe, keep me inspired during the off-season. I hope this will do the same for those who share my fascination with snipe.
